I just started getting into Super 8...I have a camera, and access to a viewer/editor and a projector. I've read on this forum about Ciro and Wurker splicers, and I was wondering where (on the Internet) I could look at these and other editing supplies (tape/cement/leader). Any suggestions?
P.S. I bought a Vernon S-66 splicer for about $7 on Ebay, but I'm not quite sure how to use it...does it need a special kind of tape? If anyone knows, please let me know. Thanks!

I don't know about the States, but in UK widescreencentre. Germany is the best place to buy S8 gear. Go to www.super8.nl and there to the Links section. You'll find lots of good links.
Keep editing on film ? screw video transfers!

I don't know about your particular splicer/editor, but if you check your nearest biggish photographic store, you'll probably get all the supplies you need. There are splicing tapes, or your splicer may scrape off emulsion, in which case you can use cement splices.
Basically, splicing is cutting the film and gluing (cementing) or taping it together again. If you use cement, your splicer needs a way of rubbing off the emulsion. Does your splicer have a way of doing this? If so, rub off the emulsion, then apply cement and put the two cut edges together. Cement splices are extremely strong.
If not, the splicing is just cutting the film and splicing the two cut bits together with a tape. This produces strong splices, but they cover about four frames instead of one. You need to make sure the tape doesn't cover the sprocket holes.
I'm with Mikko -keep on editing on film. It's much more fun, and there's nothing to beat projected super 8 film. I use cement splices, and find them much better than the tapes because they're strong and they really cover only one frame.
http://www.super8filmaker.com/super8_7.html explains the basics of splicing. Hope this helps.

Christies editorial supply in Burbank, Calif.
P.S. If you're doing tape splices, use the Hervic splicer and tapes, NOT the Kodak.
Much better, and they only cover two frames, not 4.

I love the Hervic but I've seen the Ciro and the Wurker which everyone raves about go for less than $100 on e-bay.
Never heard of the Vernon S-66. Yeah, avoid the dreadful Kodak splicer at all costs.

Hey Matt,
Do you know the address to Christies? I'm here in LA and I'd like to get a quality splicer soon and, oddly enough, e-Bay currently seems to be short on them.
Thanks for the help
Stanley

Stanley K,
you might want to try Yale first to get a Hervic splicer http://www.yalefilmandvideo.com/
I got mine at Christies and it was about 5-10 bucks more (Yale was temporarily out).
I heard from an unconfirmed source, however, that Hervic has stopped making the splicer but they will still make the tape patches!
